George's New Look

Recently, George's hair has been looking a little....well...."mushroomy." It grows so quickly and seems to puff out within a week or two of a cut. Since his last haircut (before Halloween), I've been toying with the idea of buzzing it all off. When chatting with others about this idea I got a lot of push-back because his hair "is just so great." I must admit that a mom enjoys hearing these words, but there comes a point when you don't want your son to be "defined by his hair" (insert giggle here). So, yesterday I made an appointment and went for it.
After it was all said and done, I was quite pleased with the result. You can actually SEE George's face - his big, beautiful eyes and sweet lips. The biggest change is that he just looks like a boy....a real BOY. I find myself staring at him often, wondering where this new child came from....could this really be my George? Then, he starts making his demands of me and I realize, yes, this is still my boy and will be mine forever.
Here are a couple unedited before and after shots. As you can see, he is very happy in both. What do you think of George's new do?

Halloween Night

Here are a few photos from last night before the festivities, and therefore meltdowns, began. James was really excited and proud to go as Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Originally I had planned on making him a mask but it turned out too toxic-smelling, so I ditched the idea. Next up, face painting. He was quite patient during the application process and kept wanting to gaze at himself in the mirror. It was priceless.

I keep trying to dodge the Superhero thing with George but he's just not having it. This year he requested to be Ironman, which soon turned into a desire to be both Ironman and Spiderman at the same time. I told him he had to go as Ironman (because we already had the costume) then felt bad about it when I saw a couple of other boys sporting the same mis-matched get-ups. George was our meltdown king last night, which prompted me to rename it to Hallo'whine'. He cried for no less than 45 minutes about whatever set him off: not being allowed to eat every piece of candy he received, Fran taking off his shoes instead of him doing it himself, not being allowed to eat a gobstobber (too much of a choking hazard), and various other reasons I do not know.

Cash was pretty good last night; dressed as Spidey-baby and no real complaints out of him.

James won the trick-or-treating gold star. I could have stayed out with him for another hour at least.

Black and White Summer Flashback

Still sorting through these photos. Ugh. Taking forever, and honestly they aren't even good. I missed my focus on a lot of them due to pure laziness. I still have to tell myself to slow it down and wait for it. With small children it's hard though. Here are a few of my favorites from the summer in black and white. I just love black and white film. I think I want to shoot it all the time.
While we were away we did a lot of swimming, Cashie turned one, George went to his first professional baseball game, we had our very own fireworks show, Taryn spoiled us with her cooking, we rode a ferry to Martha's Vineyard, James learned to ride a bicycle without training wheels, we picked raspberries, and lots, lots more. It was FUN.
